Description
Summary:Every introductory physics course discusses permanent magnets, usually bar magnets. The two main properties of the magnetic field, B, treated there are its direction and strength. The latter is treated qualitatively: “the number of [field] lines per unit area is proportional to the strength of the magnetic field,” with reference to a sketch of field lines for a bar magnet. The quantitative solution of B for a bar magnet is beyond the level of any introductory course.
