Summary:Two new Cs 5 [{Ln(H 2 O) 4 (C 2 H 6 O)}{Re 6 Se 9 (CN) 6 } 2 ]·2H 2 O (Ln = La, Nd) compounds are obtained by the interaction of aqueous Cs 3 KRe 6 S 8 (CN) 6 and LnCl 3 solutions in the presence of ethanol. These compounds are isostructural, and crystallize in the tetragonal crystal system (space group P 4/ ncc ) with the following unit cell parameters: a = 17.9102 Å, c = 19.6694 Å for La , and a = 17.8846 Å, c = 19.6425 Å for Nd . The structure of the compounds consists of corrugated [{Ln(H 2 O) 4 (C 2 H 6 O)}{Re 6 Se 8 (CN) 6 } 2 ] 5– layers. Cesium cations compensating the negative charge are located in both cavities of the corrugated layer and between the layers.
