Description
Summary:It is shown that the real composition and structure of phases belonging to the sillenite family can be determined using a complex of techniques (diffraction methods, vibrational and X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and electron probe X-ray microanalysis) with a subsequent crystal-chemical analysis of the data. Refined compositions are presented for phases of nominal composition Bi 24 M 2 O 40 with M = Zn 2+ , Al 3+ , Ga 3+ , Fe 3+ , Si 4+ , Ti 4+ , Mn 4+ , and P 5+ , which demonstrate types and concentrations of point defects as functions of the M type.
