Summary:The reaction of phthalimide with zinc(II) propanoate gave meso -tetramethyltetrabenzoporphyrinatozinc(II) whose demetalation afforded the corresponding free base. The latter was used to synthesize complexes with lutetium, erbium, yttrium, and lanthanum. Heating of these complexes with excess phthalonitrile led to the formation of sandwich meso -tetramethyltetrabenzoporphyrin-phthalocyanine complexes. Spectral properties of the resulting compounds were studied.
