Synthesis of Paratose (3,6-Dideoxy-D-ribo-hexose) and Tyvelose (3,6-DiAeoxy-D-arabino-hexose)

Convenient syntheses of the biologically important 3,6-dideoxyhexoses paratose ( 12 ) and tyvelose ( 8 ) from the readily available chlorodeoxy sugar methyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-3-chloro-3-deoxy-β- D -allopy-ranoside ( 1 ) are described.
