Chemistry of Proximal π-Bond Systems. Part II. Synthesis of 2,3-Dimethylenebicyclo[2.2.2]octa-5,7-diene

The new C 10 H 10 hydrocarbon, 2,3-dimethylenebicyclo[2.2.2]octa-5,7-diene ( 7 ), has been synthesized. Diels-Alder additions to 7 afford a useful route to annelated barrelenes.
