Description
Summary:A three-grid MBAG, which is a special B-A gauge with two additional concentric grids inside the electron collector grid (G 1 ), was investigated. Much effort was made to reduce the modulation factor of the background current (noise current). The potential of the innermost grid (G 3 ) was kept constant in both “on” and “off” states so as to maintain the photo-electron current, one of the main components of noise current, constant. The signal current was modulated by changing the potential of the filament, the 1st grid (G 1 ), the 2nd grid (G 2 ), and an auxiliary electrode behind the filament. The modulation factor of the signal current was unity. The sensitivity of the gauge was 2.1/Torr (=1.6×10 -2 /Pa).
