Summary: | A newly-designed plastic alignment platform formed by a precise injection molding
technique is proposed for connecting a polymer waveguide film to optical fibers. This platform
consists of a pair of parallel arrayed V-grooves separated by a flat cavity for the polymer
waveguide film. The core positions of the film are strictly determined by using polymer
processing techniques including microlithography. A precisely aligned connection is then
realized simply by placing the polymer waveguide in the mount cavity of the component. This
provides an average connection loss of 0.2 dB/port. |
