Growth Modes of Nd Deposited on Mo(110) Surface
We have studied the growth modes of Nd deposited on a Mo(110) surface by means of reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Nd grows on the Mo(110) surface in the Stranski-Krastanov growth mode in the temperature range between 500°C and 750°C, in which a...

Summary: | We have studied the growth modes of Nd deposited on a Mo(110) surface
by means of reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Nd grows on the Mo(110) surface in the Stranski-Krastanov growth mode in the temperature range between 500°C and 750°C,
in which a monolayer with a c(5×3) structure grows initially, followed by the
growth of Nd islands. On the other hand, Nd grows on the Mo(110) surface in
the pseudo Frank-van der Merwe growth mode in the temperature range
between room temperature and 500°C. The results of RHEED specular beam
intensity oscillations also support the above-mentioned growth modes. |
