Description
Summary:Vaporization of thermally unstable SmBr 3 , YbBr 3 , SmBr 2 , EuBr 2 , and YbBr 2 is investigated by the high temperature mass spectrometry. It is found that the composition of vapor phase changes in the course of vaporization due to thermal decomposition of tribromides and disproportionation of dibromides. The neutral (Ln, Br, Br 2 , LnBr, LnBr 2 , LnBr 3 , Ln 2 Br 4 , Ln 2 Br 5 , and Ln 2 Br 6 ) and charged (Br – , LnBr 3 – , LnBr 4 – ) species are present in vapor at various vaporization stages. Eventually for each sample studied the vaporization approaches steadiness when the LnBr 2 molecules are predominant in the vapor.
