Description
Summary:This paper report the pitting corrosion behavior and grainsevolution of shot peened 304 type stainless steel. Polarization testswere conducted in 3.5%wt NaCl to reveal corrosion behaviors ofthe samples. The measurements were carried at room temperaturewith Ag/AgCl/KCl as reference electrode and Pt as counterelectrode. The optical microscope was employed to characterizethe grain evolution of the samples. In this study, the transformationof pitting corrosion behavior and grain evolution is observed. There are grains refinement on the shot peened samples. Thepitting corrosion is dependent upon grain evolution due to shotpeening processes. The pitting corrosion resistance increase insmaller grains, although the corrosion potential shifted to lessnoble and passive current increased.
