Summary:The Ln−LnI 3 (Ln = La, Ce) systems and their individual components LaI 3 and CeI 3 have been studied by the Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry (KEMS). Monomer LnI 2 , LnI 3 , dimmer Ln 2 I 6 molecules and positive and negative ions have been identified in the saturated vapor over these systems. The formation of LnI 2 in the Ln−LnI 3 systems during high temperature experiments has been determined.
