Summary: | The effect of gas-channel geometry on a proton exchange membrane fuel-cell oxygen cathode was investigated by comparing numerical simulations for two alternative channel geometries. Calculations were done by use of Multiphysics COMSOL® software. One geometry consists of parallel channels, and the other is a criss-cross design called "re-direct pattern" (rdp). The parallel-channel design does not provide uniform distribution of the flow over the electrode so oxygen is depleted and water accumulates in some regions. |
