Summary: | A novel high sensitive method of drospirenone (DR) voltammetric determination was successfully developed for the first time. In order to provide repeatability and low limit of detection, mercury film silver based electrode (Hg(Ag)FE) was applied as the working electrode. The electrochemical behavior of drospirenone reduction on Hg(Ag)FE was investigated using cyclic voltammetry. A linear voltammetric response was obtained for analyte in the concentration range from 2.50·10−9 mol L−1 (9.16·10−7 g L−1) to 1.00·10−8 mol L−1 (3.66·10−6 g L−1), with a detection limit of 1.7·10−9 mol L−1 for preconcentration time of 60 s. Repeatability of method was determined as RSD % for drospirenone concentration of 0.05·10−6 mol L−1 as 1.5% (n = 8). The proposed method was successfully applied and validated by studying the recovery of drospirenone in commercially available combined oral contraceptive pills. |
