Summary:(analytical)Scientific education is a challenge in terms of comprehensive education for children and adolescents. This research aimed to identify the meaning of scientific education that has been generated through the experiences of a group of students from schools in the Bajo Sinú subregion, located in the department of Córdoba, Colombia. This was a qualitative study that used a hermeneutic phenomenological design with participation from 25 adolescents. The data was collected through semistructured interviews and group conversations and was then organized and analyzed using the content analysis technique. The findings identify adolescents’ perceptions of the conservative viewpoints held by science and society, the deficiencies faced by the educational system in terms of connectingscience with students’ social realities and the importance of student research groups to develop their scientific capabilities. Esta investigación busca develar los significados en torno a esta que han sido construidos a partir de la experiencia vivida de un grupo de estudiantes de las instituciones educativas de la subregión del Bajo Sinú en Córdoba, Colombia. Es un estudio cualitativo con diseño fenomenológico hermenéutico que incluyó a 25 adolescentes. Los datos se recolectaron por medio de una entrevista semiestructurada y conversaciones grupales; fueron organizados y analizados con la técnica de análisis de contenidos. Los hallazgos confirman la visión conservadora de la ciencia y sociedad, las deficiencias del sistema educativo para conectar la ciencia con las realidades sociales y la importancia de los semilleros de investigación en el desarrollo de capacidades científicas.
