The Syntax and Rhetoric of Ruth 1:9a

Abstract Scholars have made a number of proposals to explain the difficult syntax of Ruth 1:9a. After a brief review of scholarship, this note develops a recent proposal by Robert D. Holmstedt to explain both the syntax and rhetoric of this half verse.
