Summary: | The Variable Prime Cobe Membrane Lung (VPCM L) is intended to be used as a variable membrane package: any one of three combinations of membrane surface areas can be used, depending on the patient's requirements. We used all three membrane configurations and determined their performance with regard to gas transfer, haemodilution, blood trauma, pressure gradient and flow distribution. In addition, the ability of the VPCML to achieve a consistent level of blood gas control was studied. Heat exchanger performance was also assessed. |
