Summary:The study examined the relationship between the Matrix Analogies Test-Expanded Form (MAT-EF), a recently available nonverbal cognitive ability measure, and the Wide Range Achievement Test Revised (WRAT-R). The sample was comprised of 65 male and 100 female elementary school age children of various socioeconomic levels who were referred by their parents for possible placement in a school program for the academically talented. Results revealed moderate statistically significant correlations between the MAT-EF and WRAT-R. MANOVA tests indicated no significant differences between the sample's various socioeconomic level groups and between males and females. Discriminant analysis findings indicated that use of the MAT-EF and the WRAT-R resulted in a correct classification of 92.7% of the subjects in the study's sample.
