Summary: | The paper discusses the key methodological steps to assess and improve the sustainability profile of private voluntary health organisations (PVHO) on the basis of a comprehensive conceptual framework. Sustainability is seen as a natural product of the transformation process—the transformation of the PVO-community relationship over time. Sustainability requires that the PVO move away from its original role of a provider, towards a role which is more facilitative, institution- based, strategically broader, and has a longer term horizon. |
