Summary:Traumatic separation of the pubic symphysis is a serious, infrequent and potentially life-threatening medical emergency. Rectal laceration is a rare associated finding. A case of traumatic separation of the pubic symphysis associated with a deep perineal tear is reported. The mechanism of injury, preoperative care and operative management of this type of injury are discussed.
