Summary:This report deals with the results obtained from the tests of a high supercharged, two cycle, Vee-type diesel engine, and also with the following basic research conducted in relation to the said engine. 1) Exhaust silencer : By means of decreasing the selected component of exhaust gas pulse, we could obtain an excellent silencer. 2) Exhaust valve spring : To eliminate a surging of the exhaust valve spring, we measured static and dynamic unbalanced forces, and obtained the effect of harmonics of cam on surging. 3) Scavenging test : We tested the effect of piston stroke, cylinder bore, height and breadth of scavenging ports on scavenging efficiency by using a single-stroke type scavenging test appraratus, and determined the most suitable form of ports. 4) Strength of crankshaft : We could design a small type crankshaft by making use of three-dimensional photo-elasticity, strength test of material and measuring the static and dynamic stress of the test engine. 5) Exhaust turbocharger : We obtained the maximum capacity of the one-stage exhaust turbine by equi-density interference fringe and Schlieren photograph, and as a result of the spin test, we established the calculating method of the impeller strength.
