Summary: | Presents a child-inclusive intervention for families of single mothers where their sons do not know their fathers. Therapists address three inclinations of families who do not have fathers in their lives: (1) the mystification of the absent father; (2) the single mother is the gatekeeper of the son's information about their fathers; & (3) a young boy's search for identity can occur in a vacuum. The intervention reported in this article used all three inclinations & a closed-circuit telephone system. The telephone interventions validated the boy's curiosity about his father & also helped the mother feel secure. It is concluded that it is not beneficial for children to know nothing about their fathers. 8 References. E. Larsen |
