Description
Summary:The article deals with the relations between the European Union and Venezuela in the source of an acute political and economic crisis. The author analyzes the various spheres of interaction between Brussels and Caracas, examines the evolution of the position of the EU. The main attention is paid to the policy of sanctions, to the EU's involvement into the negotiation process between the chavistas and the opposition, the humanitarian aid provided to the population of the Bolivarian Republic. The European Union faces difficult options. A de-escalation of tension with the government of Nicolas Maduro may strengthen the role of the EU in Venezuela. On the other hand, this policy could complicate the EU's relations with the United States and the opposition movements, which have united around the figure of Juan Guaido and have decided to boycott the parliamentary elections. The article is based on the latest factual data and sources that have not yet been introduced into scientific field
