Summary:Two patients with congenital heart disease who developed the nephrotic syndrome are discussed. Neither had evidence of heart failure or increased venous pressure. The possible pathophysiologic mechanisms leading to the nephrotic syndrome are discussed. The interesting possibility is raised that the associated occurrence of congenital heart disease and the nephrotic syndrome in such patients may represent different expressions of an inherited or developmental abnormality.
