Summary:Serious mortalities (10 and 18%) occurred over a period of a few days in chickens less than 14 days old on 2 broiler farms. Deaths were restricted to a single shed on each farm. Prominent gross pathological lesions were hydropericardium and smaller spleens. Salmonellae were isolated from birds in both outbreaks. Reoviruses were isolated from the hearts of affected birds.
