Summary:A virus indistinguishable from the causal viruses of hemorrhagic enteritis (HE) of turkeys and marble spleen disease (MSD) of pheasants was isolated from enlarged spleens of chickens condemned for Marek's disease (MD). Sera from 13 of 28 commercial broiler-breeder chicken flocks contained HE/MSD precipitin. The 13 positive flocks had a mean age of 32.9 ± 12.4 weeks, and the 15 negative flocks a mean age 12.8 ± 7.3 weeks. Avian adenovirus group-II splenomegaly of chickens is the name proposed for this disease.
