Summary: | A bisexual specimen of the portunid, Callinectes sapidus, was found in the Chesapeake Bay. Both external and internal characters were aberrant, the left side being female, the right showing only male characteristics. Microscopic examination of the gonadal contents verified the bisexual features. Since the two gamete-producing areas are not adjacent to each other in the same reproductive structure, this individual is thought to be a gynandromorph. |
