Description
Summary:An article by Hirsch and Hausman (Economica, 1983) rekindled a long-standing debate concerning the causes of falling labour productivity in the British coal mining industry during the four decades before the First World War. This paper provides results which correct the econometric estimates of the model presented in the article. Two corrections are made. One relates to a value for the dependent variable in the South Wales case. The other allows for the two year lag which is required by the FIML system specified in the article.
