Description
Summary:Two West Indian names in Operculina are briefly discussed and compared with the Old World O. turpethum (L.) S. Manso. The conclusions are made that O. triquetra (Vahl) H. Hallier is a taxonomic synonym of O. turpethum and that O. ventricosa (Bertero) Peter may best be considered a variety of O. turpethum. Typification of Operculina is discussed, and it is found that, although S. Manso had a mixed concept of O. turpethum, this species must be the type of the genus.
