Characterization of Turbellarian Chromosomes. II. C-Banding in Dugesia lugubris (Tricladida: Paludicola)
C-bands were observed in all chromosomes constituting the diploid complement of the freshwater triclad Dugesia lugubris. C-bands were limited to the centromeric regions and thus differ from those of the closely related species Dugesia polychroa. The two species appear to have had quite different mec...

Summary: | C-bands were observed in all chromosomes constituting the diploid complement of the freshwater triclad Dugesia lugubris. C-bands were limited to the centromeric regions and thus differ from those of the closely related species Dugesia polychroa. The two species appear to have had quite different mechanisms of genome evolution in spite of their supposed close taxonomic relationship. Differences between their karyotypes cannot be explained by simple chromosome rearrangements. |
