Summary:A single, sublethal dose of x-radiation (175 rads) to the whole body or liver of Osborn-Mendel female rats fed dl-ethionine for 5 1/2 months has resulted in an increased incidence of rats with mammary tumors in the whole-body-irradiated but not in the liver-irradiated or control rats. This increase appears to be related to the dietary level of ethionine. It was not apparent until at least 6 months after ethionine was removed from the diet. Incidence of mammary tumors for control and liver-irradiated rats was unchanged or slightly reduced with ethionine.
