Summary: | This is a study of the various dimensions of the legislators' complaint-handling role in the Indian state of Orissa. Its conceptualizes such activities of the legislators as an "ombudsmanic role." The comparative legislative literature suggests that the ombudsmanic role is a pervasive one among legislators in most political systems. Survey data shows that most Orissa legislators supported such an ombudsmanic role. A purposive sample of "administrator aspirants" (political science majors in college) shows that a sizeable proportion of them also support an ombudsmanic role for legislators. |
