Description
Summary:Landscape-grown Japanese holly (Ilex crenata Thunb. cv. ‘Helleri’) were found to be colonized by various endomycorrhizal fungi. Synthesis of Japanese holly endomycorrhizae with Glomus mosseae (Nicholson and Gerdemann) Gerdemann and Trappe, G. albidus Walker and Rhodes and other Glomus and Gigaspora spp. was accomplished under greenhouse conditions. The fungi inoculated to greenhouse-grown plants colonized roots exclusively intracellularly and produced vesicles and arbuscules typical of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae.
