Description
Summary:Examples of three-dimensional shock wave turbulent boundary-layer interactions include the sidewall interactions in engine inlets, and protuberance and fin-induced flowfields. Many critical questions regarding the resulting flowfield remain unanswered. One of the most fundamental is that of which parameters control the interaction scale and spanwise growth. The present investigation is concerned with an attempt to provide a partial answer to this question. The results of the conducted studies show that a scaling technique can be developed which correlates upstream influence in sharp fin-induced shock wave turbulent boundary-layer interactions. Although the dimensional scale differs from that in swept compression ramp flows at similar flow conditions, the scale effects of changing boundary-layer thickness and Reynolds number are the same. In both cases, the scale increases with increasing boundary-layer thickness and decreasing Reynolds number.
