Description
Summary:A new type of industrial furnace was created based on rather old technology and principle, namely the carbon bed and the Ellingham diagram. This furnace made it possible to physicochemically lower the partial oxygen pressure in the furnace for heat treatment only by using inert gasses without using any conventional reducing atmosphere such as hydrogen, nor using mechanical evacuation like a vacuum furnace. By lowering partial oxygen pressure in the furnace, atmosphere heat treatment, such as sintering and brazing, of a variety of metallic materials became possible. At the same time, by using a carbon-carbon composite belt, a continuous conveyance for mass production up to 2600°C became available. This study presents a practical example of creating a new technology by adding new value to old technology.
