Summary: | Experimental results on the use of the ultrasound phase conjugation (PC) for measuring the coefficient of sound absorption in test objects simulating an inhomogeneous medium are reported. The objects were made of gelatin with local inclusions in the form of air bubbles. The results obtained at 5 MHz by the conventional insert/substitution method were compared with measurements by the modification of the method that employs PC of ultrasound. It is shown that the PC compensation for the distortions of the probing ultrasound beam in an inhomogeneous medium leads to a decrease in the measured ultrasound attenuation and thus allows a more accurate description of the sound absorption coefficient than the conventional method without compensation. |
