Description
Summary:The frequency dependences of the refractive index of structures formed of either only narrow conducting strips or only double split-ring resonators, as well as the refractive index of a metamaterial (a combination of these structures), have been measured by a two-beam hybrid interferometer. Frequency ranges are found in which (at a certain orientation of metamaterial with respect to the electromagnetic field vector) the refractive index of metamaterial is either positive, or negative, or zero. The spatial structure of the field distribution in an electromagnetic wave passed through a metamaterial is measured by a radiovisor. It is shown that the structure under study has waveguide properties and makes it possible to form almost aberration-free images.
