Summary: | A global overview is provided of Spanish cardiovascular research at the micro level through the Science Citation Index database. The most productive teams during 1990–93 were identified using co-authorship analysis. Two approaches were used to delimit the area, the first based on cardiovascular journals, the second on documents with specific keywords in the address or title. A total of 82 teams were identified and their main specialisation subfield was determined using bibliometric indicators. The groups were categorised by experts according to the relevance of their production to cardiovascular research: 36 were highly relevant. The journal approach provided 58% of the relevant groups, mostly located at cardiology departments. The broad approach for area delimitation was especially useful for identifying the more basic research teams. |
