Description
Summary:A new methodology for screening the potential of new pulp mill concepts as part of retrofits is presented. A generic method for describing different capacity constraints or bottlenecks is given. These constraints are considered in order to illustrate the potential of new concepts applied in different kinds of pulp mills. The presented methodology combines the generality of theoretical reference mills and the specific details of case studies. Results of the study show that the feasibility of different process concepts heavily depends on the limiting factors of a pulp mill. The methodology is a possible tool for scholars and experts to illustrate where new process concepts should be implemented.
