Summary: | The present study was designed to investigate the removal of three reactive dyes: Reactive Blue (RB), Reactive Red (RR) and Reactive Yellow (RY) from simulated textile wastewater in single and mixed (ternary) systems using adsorption process. Modified low-cost adsorbents: rice husk (RH), saw dust (SD) and sewage sludge (SS) in addition to granular activated carbon were used as adsorbents. RH was found to have a high removal efficiency. Batch experiments were achieved to study the effects of pH, dosage, contact time and initial concentration onto adsorption process using RH. The optimum conditions were found to be 2, 3 g, 150 min and 50 mg/L, respectively. The maximum removal efficiency was 95.77%, 89.26% and 80.36% for RB, RR and RY, respectively, for single system. Adsorption isotherms and kinetic models had been used to fit the experimental data. From which Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models were found to be having high correlation coefficient for the three dyes. |
