Description
Summary:The study aimed to investigate the effects of molasses on denitrification in an actual aquaculture wastewater through a set of experiments with the addition of an external C source. The difference in pollutant degradation in the aquaculture water was observed through the aerobic denitrification process in the biological aerated filter. Molasses can cause changes in the water environment and increase the bacterial metabolism when added to the reactor as a cosubstrate. High inorganic N bioremoval levels were also due to the different bacterial communities. At the phylum level, the dominant bacteria were Proteobacteria, Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. At the genus level, molasses addition also stimulated a significant increase in the aerobic denitrifying bacteria, such as Pseudomonas, Comamonas and Zoogloea.
