Description
Summary:After 50 years of research on community response to blast noise, blast noise remains a major issue for military testing and training facilities. This paper discusses the history of blast noise metrics for the dual purpose of understanding the current United States Army standards and developing the next generation of human response to blast noise research. The article discusses how the evolution of stimulus and response metrics to assess community response to blast noise has been influenced by functional, technological, and sociopolitical factors, and suggests that the Community Tolerance Level (CTL) model may be an accurate response model for blast noise.
