Description
Summary:The management of the risks associated with the operation and implementation of Information Systems is becoming increasingly important, due to the reliance upon these systems for a multitude of vital operations. The rapid growth and complexity in information technologies, as well as the overarching desire for enhanced interconnectivity, promotes vulnerabilities associated with these risks. Eliminating all risk is often technically, operationally and/or fiscally impossible. Therefore, the efficient management of such risks to these systems must be achieved. This paper presents potential improvements upon the current risk management process by incorporating value focused thinking. In this approach, the value of the information being protected or used serves as a focal point for prioritizing vulnerabilities requiring remedy, thereby allowing for the efficient reduction of risk inherent in today's information and information systems.
