Description
Summary:The Global Forum for Physical Education Pedagogy 2016 (GoFPEP 2016) was the fourth in a series of international events focused on rethinking, reforming and renewing the ways in which health and physical education pedagogy is practiced. In addition, GoFPEP 2016 is dedicated to seeking ways to improve the preparation of health and physical education teachers for promotion of holistic health and wellness. The theme of GoFPEP 2016 was focused on "Technology, Networking and Best Practice in Physical Education and Health: Local to Global". The aim of this year's forum was to continue to stimulate forward thinking focused on emergent concerns and global issues impacting and directing the future roles of physical and health educators through interdisciplinary approach. The emphasis of GoFPEP 2016 was building on previous themes of past forums which focused on: (l) the utilization of technology, (2) community networking and (3) best practice. This study reports on the results from eight discussion groups focusing on four basic topics 1) technology; 2) community networking; 3) best practices and 4) future developments. Utilizing an exploratory sequential mixed methods research design, the study results and discussion indicated that it will be to the advantage of the students if technology and pedagogical skills are blended effectively together. The co-operation between government agencies, universities, professional organizations and the commercial sector with schools is important in order to promote health-related physical activities and healthy active lifestyles. Best practice suggest that the physical education curriculum contains not only physical activity, motor performance and fitness promotion, but also includes health lessons such as nutrition and the promotion of physical literacy. The creation of model schools has provided a local and international platform for exchanging ideas of "Best/Good Practice" regarding physical education and physical activity for teachers and students. The Global Forum for Physical Education Pedagogy (GoFPEP) has played an active role to serving as an "Agent of Change" focused on transforming health and physical education teachers' preparation regionally, nationally, and on a global basis.
