Summary: | The ideas in this article are designed for elementary and junior high school children, yet they are flexible enough to offer some challenge for high school students, particularly in an algebra class. The authors have tried these ideas with third and fourth graders by simply exploring patterns; with a group of gifted twelve year olds, the analysis and extension of patterns really caused some excitement. There are so many variations on this theme of pattern exploration that a creative teacher could design discovery sequences for almost any group of children and would find the result to be quite productive. |
