Description
Summary:A method for improving the acoustic sensitivity of a heterodyne fiber-optic sensor system of polarimetric type is described. The sensitivity of a heterodyne fiber-optic sensor can be increased using the frequency multiplying technique. The present system uses a Zeeman laser, a polarization-maintaining fiber and a frequency multiplier. The optical beat of two orthogonally polarized lights of a stabilized transverse Zeeman laser produces a carrier wave without a frequency shifter. The frequency multiplier increases the frequency of the carrier wave and the frequency deviation. The enhancement of the sensitivity was confirmed.
