Description
Summary:Pragmatists use to focus on time, and more specifically on the future, as one of the main clues to their alleged change of perspective on things; they also claim that this transformation has something to do with a denunciation of dualism. This essay explores this claims, as set forward mainly by Rorty, and tries to show that the best way of making sense of them is adopting a triadic perspective, as suggested by Peirce, rather than a pluralist one, as proposed by James, Dewey and the mainstream of the pragmatic movement.
