Description
Summary:The paper tackles the issue of gender violence in rural areas of Spain. The effect that habitat characteristics and rural economies may have on the reproduction and legitimation of violence is studied. Methodologically the paper is divided into three stages. In the first place, self-recognition and appraisal of the situation are analyzed through opinion surveys; in the second place objective data is used -medical care and denunciation- that allow a comparative analysis and, in the third place, the effect of domestic structures in the reproduction of gender violence is studied from in-depth interviews. Some of the findings stand out, such as the difficulties of recognition and the role that family relationships play in generation of dependencies and unequal relationships. In general terms, in comparison with urban areas, a more complex scenario for violence prevention, but especially for intervention, is drawn.
