Summary: | Schizophrenia is a disabling mental disorder that limits the functionality of people. The objective of the study was to recognize the cultural domain of disability in schizophrenia in relatives of users from Instituto Jalisciense de Salud Mental. As results, a single valid cultural domain was found (p ≤ 0.05), in which, work capacity and independent living were part of the main beliefs about disability. The conclusions are that the environment of the person with schizophrenia has a great impact on the experience of disability that a human lives. Individual and family beliefs configure barriers that limit inclusion.
La esquizofrenia es un trastorno mental discapacitante que limita la funcionalidad de las personas. El objetivo del estudio fue conocer el dominio cultural sobre la discapacidad en la esquizofrenia en familiares de usuarios del Instituto Jalisciense de Salud Mental. Se encontró un dominio cultural válido (p ≤ 0.05), con el trabajo e independencia como principales discapacidades. Concluimos que el entorno de la persona con esquizofrenia tiene un gran impacto sobre la experiencia de discapacidad que vive un individuo. Las creencias individuales y familiares configuran barreras que limitan la inclusión. |
