Description
Summary:This article aims to present a project report and design experience with local communities at an event in the city of Jaú (São Paulo, Brazil). This project, a partnership between the Laboratory of Solidarity Design (LabSol), the Patient Support Center (CAP) of Hospital Amaral Carvalho and Oficina do Bem, resulted in an action at the “Christmas at Amaral” event in 2022. Oficina do Bem is an organization of volunteer artisans that works in community activities. For the “Christmas at Amaral” event, 50 rag dolls were developed to give as gifts to the public, created through collaboration between LabSol and Oficina do Bem. During production tests, the artisans reported difficulties in hand-drawing the dolls’ facial expressions, which requires fine motor coordination and strength in the hands and wrists, which many of the volunteers no longer had due to their age. Thus, a new demand arose: the creation of a tool to print the features of cloth dolls that would allow for varied expressions. After some research, a stamping machine was defined as the ideal way to meet this new demand. Along with the machine, a user manual and moving parts were developed for eyebrow, eyes, nose and mouth printing. This machine was used in the production of the dolls delivered at the event, providing greater comfort, precision and agility in manual work.
